About the Author
Gerard Beirne is an Irish writer living in Canada. His novel The Eskimo in the Net (Marion Boyars Publishers, London) was shortlisted for The Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award 2004 and was selected by the Literary Editor of the Daily Express as his Book of the Year 2004.
His collection of poems Digging My Own Grave (Dedalus Press, Dublin) had previously won second place in The Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award.
He is the recipient of two Sunday Tribune/Hennessey Awards including New Irish Writer of the Year.
His short story Sightings of Bono was adapted for film featuring Bono (U2) - released on DVD in 2004 and published as a Paprika Short by Scritturapura Editore, Italy.

Congratulations on your new book. Your statement on the book sounds like a wonderful metaphor for what happens in a family when just one member is brave enough to step out of their assigned role. We know the family (the small town) will change,even if they don't know it, but will they change the stranger? Will the stranger survive the town? I guess you never know until the end of the story. I’ll have to read it to find out.
